Hidden Annapurna: Khopra Trek

Duration: 6–7 hours

Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara along the Prithvi Highway. The road follows the Trishuli and Marsyangdi rivers, offering views of terraced hills, rivers, and rural villages. Upon arrival in Pokhara, you can relax by Phewa Lake and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere beneath the Annapurna range. Overnight stay in Pokhara.

Drive: 1.5 hours
Trek: 5–6 hours

After breakfast, drive to Naya Pul, the starting point of your trek. The trail passes through Birethanti and gradually ascends through stone steps and forested paths. Walking via Ulleri and Banthanti, you enter dense rhododendron and oak forests. If the weather is clear, you’ll enjoy glimpses of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and Annapurna South. Reach Tadapani, a beautiful hilltop village surrounded by forest. Overnight at a teahouse.

Duration: 5–6 hours

Today you leave the busy Ghorepani trail and follow a quieter route. The path descends slightly before climbing through dense forests rich with wildlife and birdlife. The peaceful atmosphere makes this section special. After a steady ascent, you arrive at Bayeli Kharka, an open alpine meadow offering panoramic views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli. Overnight at a community lodge.

Duration: 4–5 hours

Begin the day with magnificent mountain views. The trail descends gradually through forested terrain toward Chistibung, a small settlement used as a grazing area for local livestock. The peaceful environment and surrounding hills create a tranquil setting. This is a shorter trekking day allowing proper acclimatization before ascending to higher elevations. Overnight at a teahouse.

Duration: 5–6 hours

Today’s climb is steady and rewarding. As you ascend above the tree line, the landscape opens dramatically. The views become increasingly spectacular with Dhaulagiri massif appearing very close. Upon reaching Khopra Ridge (also known as Khopra Danda), you are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Nilgiri, Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre, and Hiunchuli. Enjoy a stunning sunset over the Himalayas. Overnight at Khopra Community Lodge.

Duration: 7–9 hours

An early start is required for the challenging hike to Khayer Lake, the highest point of the trek. The trail climbs along alpine ridges with dramatic Himalayan scenery. Khayer Lake is a sacred glacial lake with religious importance, especially during Janai Purnima festival. The close-up views of Annapurna South and surrounding peaks are truly unforgettable. After spending time at the lake, descend back to Khopra Ridge for overnight stay.

Duration: 5–6 hours

After sunrise views, descend through forests and terraced farmlands toward Swata Village. The trail passes through traditional Magar settlements where you can observe authentic rural lifestyles. Swata is culturally rich and less visited by tourists, offering a genuine local experience. Overnight at a village lodge.

Duration: 5–6 hours

Today’s walk continues through scenic countryside, crossing suspension bridges and terraced fields. Gradually ascend toward Ulleri, famous for its stone staircases and hillside setting. Enjoy the final mountain views and reflect on the incredible journey. Overnight at a teahouse in Ulleri.

Trek: 4–5 hours
Drive: 1.5 hours

Descend through stone steps and lush forest toward Birethanti and Naya Pul. After completing the trek, drive back to Pokhara. The evening is free to relax, explore Lakeside, or enjoy a celebratory dinner. Overnight in Pokhara.

Duration: 6–7 hours

After breakfast, return to Kathmandu by tourist bus. Enjoy the scenic countryside along the way. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Your memorable Khopra Ridge & Khayer Lake adventure concludes here.
