The Khopra Ridge and Khayer Lake Trek (10 Days) is a spectacular off-the-beaten-path journey in the Annapurna region of Nepal. Perfect for trekkers seeking solitude, dramatic Himalayan scenery, and authentic village life, this trek offers breathtaking views without the heavy traffic of popular routes like Annapurna Base Camp or Ghorepani Poon Hill.
Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, Nepal’s beautiful lake city beneath the Annapurna range. From Pokhara, a short drive takes you to Naya Pul, the starting point of your trek.
The trail gradually ascends through terraced farmlands, rhododendron forests, and charming Gurung and Magar villages. After passing Tadapani, you leave the busier trails behind and enter a quieter path toward Bayeli Kharka, a peaceful alpine meadow offering stunning mountain panoramas.
The journey continues to Upper Chistibung, a serene pastureland surrounded by forests and wildlife. From here, the trail climbs steadily to the highlight of the trek — Khopra Ridge (3,660m). This hidden ridge rewards trekkers with jaw-dropping views of Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurna South, Nilgiri, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). Unlike other viewpoints, Khopra offers a peaceful and less crowded experience.
A major highlight of this trek is the full-day hike to Khayer Lake (4,500m), a sacred alpine lake nestled beneath the south face of Annapurna. This challenging yet rewarding day trip offers dramatic high-altitude landscapes, glacial terrain, and spiritual significance. The lake is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus, especially during Janai Purnima festival.
After soaking in the Himalayan grandeur, the descent follows a different route via Swata Village, allowing you to experience traditional rural life in western Nepal. Walking through terraced fields and cultural settlements, you gain insight into authentic mountain lifestyles far from commercial trekking routes.
The trail continues to Ulleri, known for its stone staircases and scenic hillside views. From here, you drive back to Pokhara and conclude your journey with a scenic return to Kathmandu.
